Above The Sun – Misty Edwards and David Brymer

It was 2013 and I had left my position in CLASFON Unilag. Korede dragged me to every meeting available; EGFM CPM, Gadites, RCF….Phew!. That girl…

Anyway, it was during this period I came across the music of Kari Jobe, Misty Edwards, Hillsong, Jesus Culture, Kim Walker and the like. It had always been Don Moen and Michael Smith for me, but the new (to me) guys were incredible! The style was different and had an even more profound spiritual effect on my person. Of all, Misty Edwards ranks top for me, still. This antiphonal singer ministers to my heart straight from the heavenlies. Like the others, she sings scripture but the combo of her style, voice and arrangement leave me subdued ALL THE TIME.

One of her songs I recently came across is Above The Sun which she sang with David Brymer and this song is not leaving my playlist anytime soon. The song deals with the vanity of life and declares boldly the life in Christ is above all the glory conceivable on earth. It focuses on Jesus as the primary obsession and love that must captivate our heart to produce the right response to the love that He gives.

It is a short song and you can download it here. Quite simple and don’t expect musical fireworks but if you listen with your heart, you’re home.

Above The Sun – Misty Edwards and David Brymer

I’ve got scars on my face
And they are the traces
Of my adolescence wrestling with graces
But beauty would never be mine
It’s never still long enough to define it
In this always changing, perpetual vanity of life

I’m gonna live
Above the sun
Where I’ll never die
And life goes on
I’m gonna live
Above it all
Where purpose is found
Above the stars
In You

I’ve got scars on my soul
And they are the show and tell
Of a dance with illusion
That tried to lead to hell
But pleasure would never be mine
It’s never real long enough to find it
In this always fading, perpetual fragile life

I’m gonna live
Above the sun
Where I’ll never die
But life goes on
I’m gonna live
Above it all
Where purpose is found
Above the stars
In You
